11-06-03: New Books from PS Publishing, New Radio Version of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Novels

Bisson & Shepard from PS

Terry Bisson's Dear Abbey answers questions about the end of the world.

I may have missed a PS title or two, a situation I intend to correct directly. If you have, then you should as well. However, here are two that one should definitely not miss. Above, exhibit 1, is Terry Bisson's latest release, 'Dear Abbey'. Two time travelers step through all our tomorrows; but you know that Bisson has something up his sleeve. You'll have to read the novella to find out what, precisely, the Presto! will be. Remember too, that this is the most bootlegged man on the Internet. His short story, 'They're Made of Meat' is without doubt the most sent round, unattributed enjoyably hilarious short story ever written. Period. Had he been paid a penny per copy, he'd own the continent of North America now. Consider you purchase of this book your rent, even if you don't live in North America. He does.

Lucius Shepard is finding things in the river. Unpleasant things.

We all know what a floater is. The less said -- or smelled -- or seen -- the better. But too-talented-for-his-own-good writer Lucius Shepard is willing to show us all this and more. His latest find him returning to the voodoo-inspired literature that he broke ground with back in the Ace Special days with "Green Eyes'. Always appropriately apocalyptic, Shepard never disappoints. And by the way, I'm still waiting for the Ridley Scott version of either 'The Man Who Painted the Dragon Griaule' or 'The Golden'. See? I'm easy. but you know, I can't waste too much time on movies these days, so they'd better be good, and not some recycled cyber-bilge.

We should probably thank Hollowood for not making a movie of 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy'. The existing TV and radio series are just fine thankyouverymuch. We really don't need some overpaid overacting West Coast ego to suck Adam's wit into Digitally generated black hole. But according to this Register story, we can look forward to much of the original cast of the original radio series coming back together to create new radio version of the final three books in the five-volume trilogy. In fact, that's an idea that Hollowood would really love to steal; the five-movie trilogy. Word is that they're considering a fourth installment in the cyber-splurge trilogy du jour. As we all know, hash is a word with all sort of professional computing connotations. So we can call it ReHashed, right?
