Here's the one-hundred thirty-eighth episode of my series of podcasts, which I'm calling Time to Read. Hitting the two-year mark, I'm going to make an effort to stay ahead, so that podcast listeners can get the same sort of "sneak preview" effect that radio listeners get each Friday morning. This week, I seem to be on top of the game, but who knows what the hell might happen. I am hoping to stay back up and stumbling.
My hope is that in under four minutes I can offer readers a concise review and an opportunity to hear the author read from or speak about the work. I'm hoping to offer a new one every week.
The one-hundred thirty-eighth episode is a look at TC Boyle and 'TC Boyle Stories II.'
12-23-13:A 2013 Phone Interview with Bill Sessions

"...it gives a realism to what I think is this ideal searching..."
— Bill Sessions
Bill Sessions was Flannery O'Connor's friend; he knew her through her brightest and darkest times. Nobody could bring the insights he brings to 'A Prayer Journal.'
I called up Sessions to talk about O'Connor, the journal and his part in finding the work. We talked about his friendship with O'Connor, the times he spent with her, and his forthcoming biography of her, which promises to provide some unique literary and personal insights into one of our great writers.
But we also talked quite a bit about the work itself. Though it is rather short, there's a lot packed into this discussion about the nature of self and creativity. Sessions and I talked about the book on two levels. Devoid of the fact that it is written by Flannery O'Connor, it's a fantastic work for those who would be writers or artists of any stripe. O'Connor brings a highly clarified, intellectual querying to the spiritual nature of creativity.
